i own super intelligence

iown.si is a single, continuous chronicle of artificial intelligence, from Turing’s question to the fog where the record ends.

The name

“Superintelligence” was coined for minds far beyond our own: I. J. Good’s “ultraintelligent machine” (1965), Nick Bostrom’s “intellect that is much smarter than the best human brains in practically every field” (1998). In 2024–2025 it moved into company names: Safe Superintelligence Inc., Meta Superintelligence Labs, Microsoft’s MAI Superintelligence Team. On 29 September 2026 a US executive order told federal agencies to say “Super Intelligence (SI)” instead of “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, applying the new name to the existing legal definition of AI.

The domain reads three ways: i own (who owns SI?), eye on (watching, the archivist’s gaze) and I, own (agents acting on your behalf). As you scroll the chronicle, the wordmark slowly bends from iown.ai to iown.si, arriving on the day of the order.

Method

Colophon

Built with Astro, Lenis, GSAP ScrollTrigger, Three.js and Pagefind. Type: Source Serif 4, Inter, Mona Sans, IBM Plex Mono, VT323, Fraunces and Caveat (all SIL Open Font License).

Illustrations: drawn with and by machines, inked by hand. The engraved plates and ornaments were generated with an image model (GPT Image 2.5 via the Image Playground API), then sliced, separated into ink layers and re-inked live per era by this site’s code. Ten artifact plates (the Harvard bug log, the Mark I Perceptron, Shakey, Deep Blue and others) are engravings redrawn from public-domain and Creative Commons photographs and drawings; each is credited on its event page and on the Sources page. Every generation is logged with its prompt and parameters. Text is CC BY 4.0; illustrations CC BY-NC 4.0 to the extent they are protectable.
